LeveL gambling harm prevention system

The Problem

Gambling harm affects millions of people, but most interventions show up too late. By the time someone hits a spending limit or self excludes, the damage is already done. These tools assume the person already knows they have a problem.

The System

LeveL is a harm prevention system that uses vibrotactile stimulation, peer support, open banking, and geo activation. It intervenes in real time at the point of gambling, rather than after the fact.

The core hardware is a wearable that delivers rhythmic vibration to stabilise mood and sharpen focus during gambling sessions. A Swift app connects to open banking APIs for spending awareness and uses geo fencing to detect when the user enters a gambling venue.

Validation

We ran a double blind controlled trial to measure the effect of vibrotactile stimulation on gambling decisions. I built the measurement hardware and the Swift application for the trial. The results showed statistically significant evidence that the intervention works.
